Linn Perennial Rye

LINN PERENNIAL RYE

Perennial ryegrass is available in either diploid or tetraploid varieties.  Tetraploid varieties have 4 sets of chromosomes per cell, compared to 2 for diploid varieties.  The tetraploid varieties are taller, less dense, have larger leaves, higher digestibility and better palatability than diploid varieties.  They are also more disease resistant and generally higher yielding.  Be sure to use pasture type perennial ryegrass varieties rather than turf-type varieties for pasture applications.  Turf-type varieties will not produce the quantity or quality of forage that pasture type varieties will.
