Little Bluestem

Little bluestem is a drought tolerant perennial bunchgrass that spreads by tillers and short underground stems.  It grows well in both upland and lowland areas.  It is very palatable early, but becomes unpalatable as it matures.  It is shorter than many of the native grasses and therefore less productive.  Care must be taken not to overgraze, especially in late summer.  It grows 2-3 feet in height.
