Reed Canarygrass

Reed Canarygrass is a sod-forming grass especially suited to web, imperfectly drained soils.  It can withstand long periods or early spring flooding.  Reed canarygrass spreads vigorously by underground rhizomes.  It has low tolerance to alkali soils.  It is very winterhardy and withstands hot summer temperatures very well.  Reed canarygrass contains alkaloids which reduce palatability when grazed, but are not a problem with hay.  Several low-alkaloid varieties are available where grazing is desired.
