Timothy is a short-lived perennial bunchgrass which produces a very palatable hay or pasture.  It is an excellent choice for including  in a pasture mix for horses.  Do not graze shorter than 3 inches or it will not recover well.  Timothy has a shallow root system which reduces its tolerance to drought.  It does best on rich, moist bottom ground.  It is often mixed with red clover or alsike clover.  It grows 1-3 feet tall.
